Seminar Title: Fire Sprinklers in the IBC
Instructor: Jeff Hugo- Director of Codes for NFSA
Seminar Need: More and more that local authorities are moving toward the International Fire Code and the International Building Code. In some areas of the country, the IBC or IFC is “old hat”, but there are plenty of regions that are new to either the IBC or new having a nationally published model code being enforced for the first time. This course is a suggestion from a TFSCA member: “It might be a good idea to draw some comparisons between these codes verses NFPA 13. We could also possibly get into how to determine the class, group, and occupancy per the International Code guidelines. Basically an overall understanding of the International Codes and where to find the information that truly affects all of us in the Fire Protection Industry.”
The primary audience is fire sprinkler contractors and layout technicians to become more familiar with the IBC.
Seminar Description: Fire sprinklers are on the mind of every construction designer and decision maker. Fire Sprinklers in the IBC is a seminar that introduces the participant to fire sprinkler requirements in the International Building Code and International Fire Code for new construction. The fire sprinkler concept and designs occur in the building code over 125 times in over 17 chapters. This seminar will discuss where fire sprinklers are located throughout the IBC and what is required for all types of construction and occupancies. Participants will get more comfortable navigating the IBC and become familiar with IBC terminology. This seminar is designed for those who have experience in codes and standards but is also an excellent introduction to the IBC and fire sprinklers for those new in architecture, fire sprinkler design/contracting and code enforcement.
